Ethical brands you will love
October is Fairtrade month and we wanted to share with you some ethical brands that we love and think you will too.
FARMDROP
My friend, Kathy, introduced me to Farmdrop and there’s no turning back. The concept is simple: from farmer to your door in 19 hours. Wherever possible your food comes from within 150 miles and local farmers are paid 70% of the retail value. And there’s none of the unnecessary supermarket packaging! Hard to argue with that. https://www.farmdrop.com
LIHA
Liha's strapline is "African roots with a quintessentially British attitude." Their products are natural, 100% vegan, cruelty free and free from parabens, sis and chemicals. Handmade in small batches in Cheltenham and Hackney. What's not to love? www.lihabeauty.co.uk
THE PEOPLE TREE
People Tree was one of the first sustainable fashion brands, realising that creating ethical, eco-friendly clothes was important when ‘fast fashion’ was still all the rage. Over 25 year late, the company is still the only fashion brand credited by the World Fair Trade Organisation. You'll wear their clothes for seasons to come. www.peopletree.co.uk
FRUGI
My sister-in-law introduced me to British brand Frugi when my son was born and all my children have grown up in their clothes. Frugi is committed to creating completely organic clothing and currently 90% of its range is made from organic cotton. It also strives to be as ethical as possible when it comes to factory workers’ rights and pay. They also have certification from GOTS and the Soil Association, which is no mean feat. Packaging is biodegrable and 1% of profits are donated to charity each year. What’s not to support? www.welovefrugi.com
CHOCOLATE AT HEART
Whoever came up with the idea of marrying chocolate AND mindfulness deserves a medal in my book. "The idea is to bringing calm to bellies through slow loving, mindful eating and meditation - with a generous sprinkle of dark chocolate. So it’s official you can stop what you are doing and sit and eat chocolate – it could be good for you, hurray! Food At Heart’s slow chocolate kits come in letterbox friendly recyclable packaging and include choc bars, cocoa nibs and hot chocolate powder with tips on sitting still, focusing on the taste and smell and relax. Am off to try it….. again! www.foodatheart.co.uk
