Best Laundry Basket, Independent, May 2019

A clothes bin with a conscience, our unique Alibaba basket was hand-woven from sustainable Ndiorokh grasses intertwined with long strips of salvaged plastic in a remote village near Thiès in Senegal. A fair trade brand to truly get behind, Artisanne cut out the middlemen to bring us quality wares direct from the skilled artisans they work with. We found this substantial laundry bin to be as practical as it is pretty. It also smells divine.

January 2019  Senegal Series
1/ Off to Dakar

I am writing to you en route to Senegal where I shall be spending the next week in the villages with the weavers. There are no direct London-Dakar flights so I have flown via Madrid, where I am putting the finishing touches to this mailer.

I was delighted to see that Dakar was Voted by New York Times as #42 in places to visit in 2019! Here is the link!: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/travel/places-to-visit.html

I am obviously biased but totally agree. I love Dakar and its salty coastal smell. It is on the Atlantic coast and is mainland Africa’s most westerly point. The capital’s coastline is stunning. I have meetings in town tomorrow and one of the highlights will be driving down the ‘Corniche’ into the centre of town passing by dramatic cliffs, beautiful beaches and a towering mosque on the beach. Really looking forward to it! Then I shall be off to the villages to organise the next shipment which is due in the UK at the beginning March! X Elizabeth

The Junior Absolute Design Awards #JADA18 was introduced last year to celebrate Junior's 20th Anniversary. And, to showcase the 20 best designed or 'absolutely' best-of-the-best designed product/brands of the year.

Platinum for Best Interiors Product Design, Junior Magazine Design Award

There were so many love heart eyes for these bright and beautiful baskets, which are ideal for stowing away clutter and toys. Our judges loved the sturdiness and practicality of this product as well as the simple beautiful design.

Comments ranged from "Absolutely amazing!" to "Love, love, love!" Mama and founder of Little Spree, Sarah Clark commented, "Beautiful storage for children’s rooms/spaces." But perhaps the biggest accolade came from the basket queen herself, Lisa Mehydene, founder of beautiful interiors site Edit 58 "As a lady that loves her baskets - these really appeal to me! Gorgeous design and perfect for a range of uses.".

I am, as you know, a big fan of a basket. You’d do well not to trip over one in pretty much any room of my house. When Elizabeth de Vise emailed me about Artisanne, the company she set up with her sister, producing ethical, beautiful baskets which also empower local women, she had me at ‘baskets’.

I've been looking for new storage for Carls's room for a while now as I'm a bit tired of all the paper bags that must be completely emptied by the little hands in their search for what's at the bottom. So happy when I came across these wowen handmade baskets from Artisanne.
